Gluten-free Breakfast Cereal

High-fibre, low GI, protein-rich soya cereal with honey & cinnamon coated rice & corn cereal flakes, with prebiotic maize starch, minerals & vitamins.

Dr Alfred Vogel
Vogel's® breakfast cereals follow the guiding principals of Dr Alfred Vogel, the famous Swiss naturopath and nutrition therapist. Born in 1902 near Basel, he became a highly respected nutritionist and a pioneer in the promotion of "healthy" foods as a means of protecting and maintaining health. He opened his first health food store at the age of 18 in 1920, and summed up his philosophy thus: "Preventative healthcare is the source of health and happiness. The decision to adopt a well-balanced diet containing natural foodstuffs and to heed the body's own signals must be taken of one's own free will."

Ingredients
Soya products (44%) [Defatted Soya Flour, Soy Protein Conc.], Corn Starch (Hi-Maize®) (23%), Rice Flour, Fructose, Honey (2%) Maltodextrin (from Corn), Glucose (from Corn), Minerals (Tricalcium Phosphate, Zinc Oxide), Emulsifier: Mono-Diglycerides (from Soya), Salt, Caramel Flavouring, Cinnamon, Vitamins (Vitamin E, Folic Acid)

Soya offers a balanced protein profile containing all the amino acids essential to human nutrition. These must be supplied in the diet because they cannot be synthesized by the human body. Soya is also a great source of phytoestrogens (isoflavones). The average Western diet provides about 1 mg per day of plant oestrogens whereas the Asian diet contains between 20-60mg. Population studies have found that diets high in phytoestrogens provide a range of health benefits for both men and women.

Each 50g serving of Vogel's VitaPro provides 10g of Soya Protein. Combined with a diet low in saturated fat, 25g of Soya Protein per day can help reduce blood cholesterol.

“High-Maize®” corn starch is a “resistant” starch that has a prebiotic effect. Most starches are digested and absorbed into the body through the small intestine, but some resist digestion and pass through to the large intestine where they act like dietary fibre, encouraging the growth of friendly bacteria and helping to improve bowel health. This type of starch is called a "resistant” starch. For further information go to www.hi-maize.com

Dietary fibre can be divided into two major categories: Insoluble Fibres - found in whole grain products and also in vegetables, and Soluble Fibres - found in barley, beans, apples and some other fruits and vegetables. Fibre, soluble and insoluble, has an important role to play in the functioning of the body and is therefore a vital component of a healthy lifestyle. Increasing the fibre content of the diet is relatively easy: by eating more high-fibre foods such as wholemeal bread, fruit, vegetables and “wholegrain” foods, plus the inclusion of a bran-based cereal in the diet, fibre intake can be immediately increased.

Vogel's VitaPro is an excellent source of dietary fibre, with 11.2g of Total Dietary Fibre per serving

Folic Acid and Folate are forms of a water-soluble B vitamin. Folate occurs naturally in food whilst Folic Acid is the synthetic form of this vitamin that is found in supplements and fortified foods. Folic Acid is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells and is especially important during periods of rapid cell division and growth such as infancy and pregnancy, since Folic Acid is needed to make DNA and RNA, the building blocks of cells. Also, both adults and children need Folic Acid to make normal red blood cells.

All Vogel's Breakfast Cereals provide 50% of the RDA* for Folic Acid.
